5 Tips | A Summer Detox

5 Tips | A Summer Detox
Even though we are now in the middle of the blissful summer season I still haven't been feeling much of the 'summer vibe'. I find myself still sitting in cosy socks whilst drinking a huge delicious cup full's of hot chocolate whilst everyone else is parading around in bikinis and sipping delicious pina colada's. It wasn't so much the weather outside that was keeping me having the summer blues it was the inside my bedroom to be specific that was stopping me getting into the summer vibe. You've all heard of spring cleans right? Well I decided to give my bedroom a bit of a 'summer clean' getting rid of those wintry vibes and sprinkling some summer which has really made a difference to my attitude! I decided to write a post on 5 simple steps to give your life a summer detox.

1. Flowers, flowers, flowers: Go out and buy some daffodils to brighten up your home with a bit of sunshine. There is something so remarkably refreshing and ideal about purchasing some real or fake flowers they always brighten up rooms and add that tiny touch of summer. This was one of the first things I had done which really helped take away that wintry feeling and add a splash of freshness.

2. Fruit And Floral: When summer arrives I tend to fade away from the musky, strong wintry scents and substitute them for some fruity, floral summery scents. I went out and purchased some candles from Primark a lot of lemon and coconut scents and scattered them all over my room. When you walk into my room it smells sweet and fruity which I associate with summer! However I always crave a cocktail with the smell.

3. New bedding, mattress: Whenever I am feeling distressed about my bedroom one of the first things I do is strip my bedding and replace it with something bright and colourful, then cover it over in lots of pretty cushions. I sometimes like to toss my mattress over or even better purchase a new one suitable for summer as there is nothing worse than lying on a mattress that feels too old and flimsy. You are able to get decent mattresses here* which currently have a really good 70% off clearance! I struggle to sleep a lot in summer as I get too hot and agitated so having fresh, new bedding and a mattress can really make a difference!

4. Clear Wardrobe: When summer arrives the last thing you want to see tucked away in your wardrobe is thick, burgundy jumpers and tartan print scarves. Every summer I like to de-clutter my wardrobe by taking out all of my winter clothes and replace it with some bright, light summer clothing! You always come across some hidden treasures that you forgot you owned!

5. Little Touches: If you have done all of the above and still don't feel like you have shifted that wintry vibe then maybe think about the little touches. Buy some positive, colourful postcards from Paperchase and cover your walls in positive thoughts. Change your room around a bit - I had de-cluttered my shelves and made my work space more spacious which gave me a positive attitude.

Since doing all of the above I can now say I am happy to bask in the garden with a pina colada and not dread coming into my bedroom

  9. I love doing all the things you mentioned in this blog post as well! When a new season comes I always feel better after I've done a bit of closet cleaning and decluttering. I'm terrible with putting flowers in my room because I get lazy but I'll try to give that a go sometime!

    P.S.
